While we do not serve God so that He can reward us, He has by the scriptures made sufficient promises to encourage and reassure us in our service to Him. In Malachi 3:18 God promises a distinction between the people who serve Him from those who do not. As it is commonly said, if you mind God’s business, He will mind your business. This entails any activity aimed at promoting the influence of God’s Kingdom in our world.
Him, He promised that no man would ever sacrifice their property or family relations for His sake and go unrewarded in both this life and the life to come. Service to God is the gateway to fruitfulness and prosperity in both wealth and health (Exodus 23:25-26).
It is not unscriptural to invoke God’s remembrance of our service to Him when we need His intervention. Nehemiah did in Nehemiah 13:14.
God never owes any man. When Peter reminded Jesus that they had left everything to follow ‘Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and do not wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for its services!’ Your service to God is not in vain. Even if it tarries, Hebrews 6:10 assures us that God will never forget your work and the labor of love you showed towards His Name.
As Psalm 100:2 admonishes, “Serve the Lord with gladness”. Not as though He needs our help, but out of gratitude for His love and counting it as a privilege to be found worthy of being part of His agenda. You can start by joining a department at your local church.
